SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya has directed the State DGP, Prem Singh, to appear before the court in connection with the arrest of one Alex Graham Bell Marak who was arrested last year for having links with the militant outfit GNLA in Shella.
Justice SR Sen, in his order on May 7, said that the court in December last year had ordered for release of the accused and accordingly the same order was issued by the State Government.
However, the accused has not been released till date.
Justice Sen also directed the Additional District Magistrate, Sohra, Jail Superintendent, Shillong and the investigating officer to appear before the court with their explanation on why the accused was not released despite the court order.
Earlier, Alex Graham Bell Marak, after his arrest was booked under the Meghalaya Preventive Detection Act (MPDA), which was subsequently challenged by the defense lawyer.
Sources said that Marak had also moved the ADM, Sohra for bail but it was rejected.
The court order also said that the DGP was asked to submit the compliance report but no such report has been placed with the court.
“The incumbent should take note that on failure to comply, warrant shall follow,” the court order said.
The court is also not happy with the fact that case diary was called for many times but the investigating officer has taken a leisure time or he ‘might have been in a dream world’ and had no time to comply to the court’s order, Justice Sen ruled.
The matter is again listed for hearing on May 14.
