NONGSTOIN: A house belonging to one Wollington K Jahrin and Clara Tympuin of Nonglwai-II, West Khasi Hills was gutted in a fire on Sunday at around 4 PM.

Source informed that there was no casualty in the incident as no one was present inside the house at the time of the incident.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, but it is suspected that the kitchen fire was kept burning when the occupants of the house left.

The neighbours tried hard to kill the fire but the fire engulfed the house and razed it within one hour.

The total damage to property has been estimated at Rs 3 lakh.

“I have seven children out of whom six go to school, but all the books and uniforms were destroyed in the fire. I have nothing left and I do not know how I will construct the house again or provide education to my children,” Wollington said.
