SHILLONG: The KHADC along with the Syiem of Mylliem have decided to move the court against several self-styled Rangbah Shnong for alleged illegal issuance of birth and residential certificates to individuals with doubtful credentials thus enabling them to register in the electoral rolls.

“We have confirmed reports that the self-styled Rangbah Shnong within the jurisdiction of Syiem of Mylliem are illegally issuing such certificates,” KHADC advisory committee chairman Latiplang Kharkongor said on Monday while adding that a case on the matter would be filed within a day or two.

The KHADC member said that the Council along with the Syiem of Mylliem has been forced to take this step following the apathy of the district administration to act on the complaints of various NGOs and individuals on the illegal functioning of the self-styled Rangbah Shnong.

“The district administration has always entertained such certificates for enrolment of dubious people into the electoral rolls,” Kharkongor alleged.

He alleged that the Panchayati Raj system is being formed in localities like Lapalang, Happy Valley and RR Colony against the Constitution which does not allow the formation of such systems in Sixth Schedule areas. The KHADC advisory chairman asserted that the only way to stop this illegal activity is through the intervention of the court.
