SHILLONG: Nongkrem MLA Ardent Basaiawmoit along with the Dorbar Shnong of Madanriting demanded the arrest of the concerned members of the Happy Valley Gorkha Patshala for allegedly issuing illegal birth and residential certificates in the area.

The delegation, which met the District Council Affairs Minister HDR Lyngdoh here on Tuesday, submitted the documents to prove the self-styled and illegal activities of the said institution and demanded immediate action against those involved.

“We apprised the minister of the functions of the institution after the latter had expressed ignorance about the same on the floor of the House recently”, Basaiawmoit told reporters after the meeting.

Basaiawmoit also informed that HDR has assured to look into the matter and agreed to communicate with the Dorbar Shnong on the same on Wednesday after the issue has been taken up with the concerned officers.

The Nongkrem Legislator questioned the acceptance of such fake certificates by the district administration and enrollment of people producing these certificates in the electoral roll.

“We demand immediate cancellation of names which are not recognized by the Dorbar Shnong from the electoral roll”, he added.

According to Basaiawmoit, the Dorbar Shnong had earlier lodged an FIR against the institution and also sent a memorandum to the District Council following which the former’s seals and documents were seized. However, due to lack of action against those involved, the activities resumed after sometime.

Meanwhile, the Dorbar Shnong Madanriting has maintained that it will not accept the existence and functioning of such institutions even if they are recognized by the district administration or the government.

“For now we leave it to the government to do the needful. But if the same continues for long the Dorbar Shnong will be compelled to take action on its own”, Basaiawmoit said.
