SHILLONG: A new twist has emerged into the case involving the rape of a seven-year-old girl at Malki on May 8.
The sequence narrated by the adopted grandmother on the horrifying rape incident on Monday is suffering from some serious flaws, police have claimed.
There is a question over the claim that the girl was raped inside the jungle, police sources informed, saying that on the day the girl was allegedly raped there was heavy rainfall in the city.
“If the girl was raped inside the jungle, her school uniform should have been soiled and dirty. But when we went to the house of the victim they found that there was not even a single dirt in the uniform,” police sources said, adding that even the school bag was found clean.
According to police sources, the claim by the adopted grandmother that the two unidentified persons, after committing the crime, left her at the same place from where they had abducted her is debatable.
“No criminal would ever do such a thing,” the sources claimed. Meanwhile, police sources also claimed that the statement of the eldest of the five children, who were living together, was misleading.
“Initially, she had claimed that she saw the girl inside the house when she came to collect her books after a small break from her school at around 10.30 am. But this statement contradicts with the statement of the school authorities who claimed that the child was still in the school at that time. Now, she is claiming that she saw the girl inside the house between 11.30 am to 12 noon,” police sources said.
Earlier, the adopted grandmother had claimed that the doctors at Bethany Hospital after a thorough checkup found that the girl had been raped after which the doctors informed the family and suggested that they should inform the police.
However, Dr B Synrem, child specialist at Bethany Hospital, informed that they had not done any check up to find out if the girl was raped.
“We were not able to do any check up since the girl did not allow anyone near her as she was traumatized by the incident. I had called the gynecologist to do a thorough check up but the girl refused,” Dr Synrem claimed.
The doctor also said that no one at Bethany Hospital knew that the girl had been raped since she was brought to the hospital with complaints of abdominal pain.
“It was one of the attendants who suggested that the girl might have been raped,” Dr Synrem said.
Since it was a possible rape case, Dr Synrem suggested that the girl should be shifted to a Government hospital.
“We informed the police about this case. The police came and shifted the girl to NEIGRIHMS,” the doctor said.
When contacted, NEIGRIHMS Medical Superintendent, Dr AC Phukan, confirmed that the seven-year-old girl had been raped.
“The condition of the girl is stable now. We are likely to discharge her by tomorrow,” Dr Phukan said on Tuesday.
