Sultanpur: Former BJP national president Nitin Gadkari will address the party’s ‘swabhiman rally’ in Sultanpur of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday which is being seen as the launching pad of party general secretary Varun Gandhi as Lok Sabha candidate from here.
In an attempt to regain Sultapur parliamentary seat after about three decades, the Bharatiya Janata Party is looking firm on contesting Varun Gandhi from here in the next Lok Sabha elections.
Mr Gadkari will be accompanied by BJP national general secretary Varun Gandhi and state party president Dr Laxmikant Bajpayee to address the rally preparations of which were being witnessed from last several days.
The BJP workers drawn from neighbouring districts are also engaged in the preparations to make it a perfect launching event for varun Gandhi who is all set to change his winning seat of Plibhit in UP. Coincidentally, the adjacent parliamentary constituency of Amethi is represented by his cousin Rahul Gandhi.
Late Sanjay Gandhi, father of Varun, and his mother Maneka Gandhi had also been politically active in Sultanpur and this time the BJP plans to encash popularity of Gandhi faimly to its benefit.
Varun, in fact, had been doing a lot of ground work in this constituency since lat several months and the rally is being organised after taking into considerations all the political and electoral factors, some insiders of the BJP told UNI here.
Meanwhile, the opposition parties were also curious at this devlopment as the Bahujan Samaj Party general secretary Satish Chandra Mishra, in his speech at his party’s rally yesterday, mentioned his name and termed him as an ‘outsider’.
His statement that no outsider had ever won from this seat was an attempt to preempt Varun’s candidature from Sultanpur parliamentary seat.
It is also a coincidence that in the past, BJP had always fielded outsider candidates from Sultanpur seat.
The Samajwadi Party government in UP also planned to corner Varun Gandhi by announcing to revive Varun’s hate speech case of Pilibhit during the last Lok sabha elections.
An elaborate arrangement had been done in Sultanpur for tomorrow’s rally with preparations meetings were being done since last many days.(UNI)
