SHILLONG: The GNLA has denied its role in sending text messages to Congress legislator Limison Sangma.
Sangma had lodged a complaint with the police that the area commander of GNLA Rang Dat was involved in sending text message to him demanding Rs 5 lakh.
However, the self styled political secretary of GNLA, Bikdot Nikjang on Wednesday said that Rang Dat was not an area commander but only a cadre of the outfit.
According to Nikjang, the text messages demanding money could have been sent by some other criminals.
The militant leader also claimed that the ‘GNLA does not demand money from people but only asks for donations’.
The GNLA leader said that the militant outfit is a non political organization and added that it has also not supported any individual or political parties during the elections.
‘GNLA to crackdown on corruption’
The GNLA has announced that its anti-corruption wing will ensure that corruption is eradicated from Garo Hills.
The self styled political secretary of GNLA, Bikdot Nikjang, on Wednesday alleged that all corruptions start with the MLAs and “to check corruption, we have formed an expert team and we will follow our own anti-corruption law”.
According to Nikjang, the recent kidnapping of some officials was not for ransom, but for teaching a lesson to them not to resort to corrupt means.
He asked the Garo Hills legislators not to indulge in corruption as its anti corruption squad is ever vigilant.
The GNLA leader also asked all the 24 Garo Hills legislators to learn from HSPDP leader HS Lyngdoh for his continued demand for a separate Khasi-Jaintia State.
The militant leader asked the Garo Hills politicians and others to join hands in their fight for a separate Garo state.
According to Nikjang, the elected Garo Hills legislators are more dangerous than GNLA as they talk about peace and development during elections, whereas after the elections, they forget about their promises which ultimately result in militancy.
