St Mary’s starts positively at inter-school athletic meet

SHILLONG: St Mary’s Higher Secondary School ran away with four gold medals on the first day of the East Khasi Hills District Inter School Athletic Meet, held at Marbisu near Mawngap on Wednesday.

Magrita Kharbangar won St Mary’s first gold medal in the under 14 long jump while Lapynshai Wajri of Ramakrishna Mission won the silver and Phibanshwa Rynjah from St Mary’s finished with the bronze.

The second gold medal for St Mary’s came in the U-17 long jump after Saphisha Shadap jumped a distance of 1.26 metres. Elena Nongrum of St Mary’s won the silver medal while Bisharbniah Nongbet of Tyrsad Secondary School took bronze.

Hazellyne Tariang won St Mary’s its third gold medal of the day after she won the U-19 shot put. Phita Mery Kharnaior of St Paul’s HSS won the silver and Hambakla Phyllei of H Elias HSS claimed the bronze.

Kiddie’s Corner was able to halt the dominance of St Mary’s after Kani Dkhar earned them the gold medal in the 800 metres U-19 category. The silver went to Ba-larisha Tariang of St Mary’s and Shalbilin Nongkynrih of Kyntiewshaphrang HSS took the bronze.

In the boy’s category, H Elias HSS’s Waiphang Sari won the first gold medal in the boy’s event – the U-14 long jump. Clifford Sun of Seng Khasi HSS took the silver while Josaiah F Khyriem won bronze.

Damanki Rymbai help St Edmund’s win the gold in the U-17 high jump. The silver and bronze in the event went to Manskhem Snaitang of Kiddie’s Corner and Daniel Bareh of H Elias respectively.

In U-19 shot put, St Anthony’s claimed the gold and silver through Rajiv Singh and Anish Syiem, respectively, while Bijoy Momin of Kyntiew Shaphrang won the bronze.

A total of 490 students from 21 schools in various parts of East Khasi Hills are participating in the event.
