1st ever SWKH athletic meet commences

SHILLONG: The 1st South West Khasi Hills District Level Inter-School Athletic Meet, held at Mawten Playground, Mawkyrwat, began on Wednesday.

The chief guest, Aldous Mawlong, Deputy Commissioner SWKH, while addressing at the inaugural function, applauded the team representing the district in the just concluded Megh Meet 2013, held in Shillong, for their good performance where they finished third from among the 11 districts. He also encouraged and called upon the various schools, institutions and youth to come forward and take active participation in the different tournaments conducted by the District Sports Officer, Mawkyrwat.

A total of 20 co-educational schools comprising 523 athletes, both boys and girls, are taking part in this meet in categories of Under-14, Under-16 and Over-16.

The competition will be held over three days and the closing ceremony will be held on Friday.
