SHILLONG: Designs and ideas should not be confined to the requirement of the employers of multinational companies but rather harnessed, explored to the hilt, nurtured with a free hand and mind for it to grow and develop in small towns like Shillong, which provides a perfect launch pad for it observed Dean, School of Design, Ambedkar University Delhi, professor Jatin Bhatt.
Professor Bhatt, who is also the founder of Fashion and Leather Accessories department of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in his address as chief guest to a group of NIFT accessory design graduates in the graduating ceremony of the department observed that a career in MNCs is alluring and the trend nowadays, but it confines creativity to market demand which otherwise can grow better if designers move to small towns, set up a small unit and work on the designs involving the ethnicity of the region.
Bhatt stressed on working with small organisations which help one learn most and better as more is expected from the individual, performance wise. “If you work with small industries you will understand strategy, market and have firsthand knowledge of what the story is all about whereas in big industries you are confined to your task only,” he said.
The graduating ceremony was organised as part of NIFT’s 2nd convocation ceremony to acknowledge and celebrate successful completion of professional education by awarding degrees to students ready to embark on their professional journey.
