Rural doctor gets Rs 20 lakh demand call

 SHILLONG: A doctor serving in a PHC in East Garo Hills was allegedly threatened by unknown miscreant who demanded Rs 20 lakh from the doctor.

According to police, on May 18 at around 2 pm, Dr Bandi K Sangma, the in charge of Dagal Apal PHC, received a call from a cell phone (84150876447), in which the caller demanded Rs 20 lakh from him and threatened the doctor with dire consequences on non-payment of the money.

There have been several instances in the past where doctors serving in rural health centres were served with threats while some were even harassed and assaulted.
