TURA: A fish vendor on Saturday last attempted to rape a physically challenged minor at Danabollongre under Gambegre C and RD Block in West Garo Hills.
According to the 14-year-old victim, the fish vendor, taking advantage of the absence of her parents, offered her biscuits and started pinching and touching her. Later, the vendor reportedly took off his clothes and ordered the girl to do the same, on which the girl raised an alarm and the fish vendor fled the scene.
It may be mentioned that this is not the first time the particular fish vendor has tried to force himself on a minor. The vendor had during themonth of September last year tried to molest a 12-year-old mentally challenged girl from the same village. The matter came to fore only after the fish vendor’s second attempt was revealed by the victim. The vendor is known to the people of the village as he had been selling fish there for the past three years. An FIR has been lodged at Dalu Police Station even as the miscreant is still at large and his whereabouts not known.
