Itanagar: One person was arrested in the capital complex and about 14 gm of suspected brown sugar was seized from his possession, police said on Sunday.

The use of brown sugar had already been reported from Tirap, Changlang and Lohit districts bordering the Golden Triangle. The arrested person was identified as Oyar Panor. His car, used for delivering the psychotropic substance was confiscated by the police.

On a tip off that Panor was scheduled to deliver the brown sugar consignment in Ganga area to a police decoy posing as a customer, a police team under the supervision of SDPO Taru Gusar and Itanagar police station OC inspector T Bage conducted the raid successfully. The same team also arrested Langpu Takhe from Bank Tinali area here on Friday.

Takhe was accused of chopping off both the hands of one Tai Chonam in Nitivihar area on the intervening night of May 13-14 and left him in a precarious condition as per a complaint lodged by the victim’s further Tai Chali.

The Golden Triangle, overlapping the mountains of Myanmar, Vietnam, Laos and Thailand, is one of Asia’s two main opium-producing areas. (PTI)
