SHILLONG: Absconding Director of Chandra Mohan Jha (CMJ) University, Dr (Mrs.) Manjeet Kaur on Monday finally surrendered before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate here.

Public Prosecutor IC Jha informed that Manjeet Kaur moved a bail application but the application has been kept in abeyance for two days.

The Director had been absconding ever since the CID began making arrests in the CMJ University case.

According to Jha, the Court has sought a report from the Investigating Officer about the role of the Director before giving its verdict on the bail application moved by Kaur.

The court has also endorsed the matter to the Judicial Magistrate.

Meanwhile, the Director was remanded in 14-day judicial custody, Jha informed, while adding that the CID may move the court for taking her into custody.

Besides the Director of the CMJ University, others who are already under custody include Registrar Mrinal Kanti Deb, Deputy Registrar Premlal Rai and Human Resources Manager Juban Kharpuri.

However, the ‘prized catch’ University Chancellor Chandra Mohan Jha is still at large even though it is learnt that he is in Bihar.
