SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation Ltd (MIDC) has come under the scanner for its alleged nepotism in appointment of staffs who are related to either the Managing Director or some politicians.

Complaints have been raised by many MIDC employees who have alleged that the management appoints staff without floating any advertisements.

“The appointment of staff is done under the table without floating any advertisement. Sadly even personnel from the GAD were asked to remain silent whenever they questioned the arbitrary act of the Managing Director,” sources from within the MIDC said, while adding that if questions were raised, either the General Manager or the Managing Director would force the GAD personnel to refrain from raising complaints.

A fresh case of flouting of recruitment norms came to the fore when a notification was issued by MIDC on Tuesday ‘regularizing’ the appointment of one Ksan Pyniar Shilla as an Assistant Manager in the MIDC with the scale pay of Rs 20700-620-24420-730-29530-890-36650 per month plus other allowance admissible under the rules of the MIDC w.e.f June 1, 2013.

Interestingly, sources informed that the said appointee is the son of the Managing Director H Kyndiah.

Alleging the Managing Director of breaking all the rules and regulations, sources said that Kyndiah is running the MIDC according to his whims and fancies which is also evident from the appointment of one Balam Kyndiah on temporary service as Bungalow Peon attached to the Managing Director from July 1, 2012 till June 30, 2013 with a fixed pay of Rs 12000.

According to norms, the Managing Director does not get a bungalow peon except for a driver and according to GAD rules a peon gets only Rs 7500, the source added.

The source further revealed that one Banrisuk Chyne, a Mass Com Graduate, and another Liful Mary Wahlang had joined as peon on casual basis on January 11, 2013 which has irked many staff at MIDC, as both the appointees are related to Sohra legislator TW Chyne.

When contacted, MIDC Managing Director H Kyndiah refused to comment on the matter.
