 NONGSTOIN: One woman, Christina Diengngan was seriously injured after she was shot by one Hoarding Diengngan at the coal mines areas of Pyndeng Shallang in West Khasi Hills on May 26.

According to the police, the woman who hails from Torkhadoh near Maweit in West Khasi Hills runs a tea stall at Pyndeng Shallang for the past few years now.

She was shot from a distance of 12 kms from a BSSL gun by Hoarding Diengngan, a worker in the coal mines for reasons unknown to the police.

“Diengngan was in an inebriated condition when he shot at the woman who was serving tea at her shop”, police said adding that the accused is yet to be traced.

The woman who received bullet injuries on her stomach and slightly on her head was immediately rushed to Nongstoin Civil Hospital and an FIR against Diengngan was lodged on May 27 by the family members of the victim.

Police and the victims’ family members are clueless about the reason which led the accused to shoot Christina. “We cannot assume that it was due to personal grudge as we are yet to arrest the culprit who is still absconding.”
