Ban on child labour

SHILLONG: The Deputy Labour Commissioner of East Khasi Hills on Friday said that whoever employs any child or permits any child to work in contravention of the provisions of Section 3 of the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986, shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than three months but which may extended to one year or with fine which shall not be less than Rs 10,000 but which may extend to Rs 20,000 or with both.

In a statement issued here on Friday, the Deputy Labour Commissioner also informed that the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986, under Section 3 prohibits children below 14 years of age engaging in certain hazardous nature of employment.
