SHILLONG: The FKJGP East Khasi Hills president Elton C Warjri has raised strong objection on the alleged nepotism in the Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC).

“The action on the part of the MIDC managing director H Kyndiah for recruiting his son to the post of assistant manager in the association is totally unacceptable,” Warjri said in a statement issued on Thursday.

He said that it is an injustice for many of the educated unemployed youth if these kind of backdoor appointments are allowed in the various Government departments. “We demand the State Government to immediately scrap the appointment of the MIDC’s son,” the FKJGP East Khasi Hills president said.

Earlier, Commerce and Industries department director W Langstang said that the allegations will be examined by a committee under the Commerce and Industries, but the matter has to be first looked upon and discussed at the MIDC board meeting.

When asked about the date of the proposed board meeting, Langstang said the date will be scheduled after consultation with MIDC Chairman, MM Danggo, who is currently in Assam.

Reacting to allegation that the MIDC Managing Director had flouted recruitment norms, Langstang said, “The norms and rules of the Corporation has to be cross-examined to see if any changes has been incorporated. If it is found that the management has abided by the norms, then the appointment would be considered valid.”
