State TT players selected for China training camp

SHILLONG: Tanushree Das Gupta and Bivek Das of the Meghalaya Table Tennis Association have been selected to participate in an advance coaching camp to be held at Zhengding, China from June 1-June 21. The duo from Meghalaya will be a part of the 18-member Indian contingent which will take part in the three-week training camp.

Zhengding, located 260 km south of Chinese capital Beijing, is home to one of the largest TT training centres in the world.

Both Tanushree and Bibek are ranked No 1 in the sub junior category in the State. Tanushree was also the runner up in the women’s category in the North East Games, 2013.

Imphal coaching camp

With an aim to enhance the talents of young table tennis players of North Eastern states and groom them for national and international events, a ‘Residential Table Tennis Coaching Camp-2013’ got underway at the Indoor Hall of National Sports Academy in Imphal on Wednesday.

The training camp which will run till June 16 is being conducted by internationally acclaimed North Korean coach Song Han Kim.

Rollingstone Sangma, a NIS trained TT coach and presently employed with Department of Sports, Government of Meghalaya is accompanying the State team to Imphal. Sangma would also assist the Korean coach in conducting the camp. This is a part of the Manipur TT Association’s and the North East Table Tennis Forum’s, which is led by RG Lyngdoh as the president, effort to develop and popularise the game in the region.
