SHILLONG: Rangdajied United’s newly-appointed head coach Santosh Kashyap has said that his young team, who have qualified for next season’s I-League, are eager to perform at the highest level.
“This is what prompted me to take the challenge of heading the technical department of the youngest I-League team,” the 46-year-old Kashyap told reporters at a press conference here on Saturday.
He also added that the attitude of the players and management to perform in the league is an added draw for him.
Kashyap, a forward during his playing days, was the youth coach of Mahindra United before coaching the senior Air India and Mohun Bagan teams.
He was widely credited with getting ONGC to finish in the top 10 in the last season of the I-League.
When Kashyap signed on after a few games of the new campaign, ONGC (who had been promoted that very season) were at the bottom of the standings.
Reacting to a query, he said that the team is committed to retaining their position in the I-League and will aim to do well.
Kashyap took charge of Rangdajied late on Friday night and is under contract with the club for a period of one year.
