SHILLONG: The Meghalaya People’s Front (MPF) is likely to convene a meeting of all Opposition MLAs within a week to discuss the decision of Assembly Speaker AT Mondal to nominate only the members of ruling side as chairman of various Assembly Committees.
“This decision of the Assembly Speaker is unprecedented. We are contemplating convening a meeting of all the opposition MLAs including MLAs from the HSPDP to discuss the issue,” MPF spokesperson Paul Lyngdoh informed here on Sunday.
As per convention, Lyngdoh said, the responsibilities of heading the various Assembly Committees are being shared by members of both the opposition and ruling side.
“In the recent notification, he (Mondal) defied the ongoing practice by nominating only MLAs from the ruling side as chairman of the various committees,” the MPF spokesperson said.
He also said that the MPF would not allow the Assembly Speaker to undermine the opposition MLAs.
