SHILLONG: The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) on Monday said that action must be taken against the tainted cop SN Roy who was allegedly involved in the gang-rape of a Class XII student at a city hotel in 2011, even as DGP Prem Singh assured the Commission that he will be suspended within a month after departmental proceedings.

NCPCR member Dr Yogesh Dube, who is on a two-day visit to the State, said, “He should be removed from the services.”

Soon after the case was reported, the tainted cop had gone to Bihar on unauthorized sick leave and had reportedly gone missing. Later, he surrendered before the Court of the Judicial Magistrate in July, 2011.

Though he was suspended from services after the incident, the State Home department later appointed the tainted police official as Quarter Master, Reserve Police.

“We have asked the State Government to expedite the departmental inquiry and suspend him at the earliest,” Dube told reporters.

The rape victim had died in February last under mysterious circumstances, with reports saying that girl died in an accidental fire while she was cooking food at her house.
