SHILLONG: Miffed with the frequent rape incidents taking place in the State, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has urged the State Government to expedite the process of establishing State Commission for Protection of Child Rights in the State at the earliest.
Talking to media persons here in the city, NCPCR member Dr Yogesh Dube said that the State Government has assured the commission that the SCPCR will be notified within this According to Dube, the State Government has informed the commission that the SCPRCR is in the stage of inter-ministerial approvals and sanctions from the finance department.
It may be mentioned here that the NCPCR earlier had sent a letter to Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma asking the State Government to constitute the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR).
The commission also took serious note of the absence of a special court in the State for children even as the State Government has assured the commission of establishing a special court.
The commission also rued the fact that no training and orientation programme is being taken up in the State for new act such as POCSO Act and Justice Juvenile.
While asserting that the State lacks state police juvenile unit, he said that anti-human traffic units are functioning in four districts of eleven units.
