Spurt in crime against women in State

 SHILLONG: More rape cases and kidnapping of minors were reported from various parts of the State in the past few days.

On May 29, a 16 year old minor girl of Umpung village in South West Khasi Hills was raped by one Wanbhabok Kharlatang (26) belonging to the same village.

Another rape incident was reported from the same district when a 14 year old girl was raped by Pherbok Lyngkhoi at Borsora Market South West Khasi Hills on May 27 at around 10 pm.

In yet another case, a 12 year old girl was raped by one Banaiborlang Mawa in his residence at Mawshamok village in East Khasi Hills in the second week of May. The accused also threatened the little girl not to inform the matter to anyone.

On June 1, one Bishon Kharkongor (30) attempted to rape one minor girl (10) at Shobhala, Umsning in Ri Bhoi.

On May 31 at about 7 am, one Ribok Lamurong broke into the house of one woman at Sutnga village (EJH) and attempted to rape her.

Cases involving kidnapping of minors were also reported from different parts of the State where on June 2 at about 10:30 am, one Alladin kidnapped a minor girl (16) from Nongmensong. Later, on June 3 at around 3:30 pm, the victim was traced at Byrnihat in Ri Bhoi.

In another case, on May 31 at around 6.30 pm, one Amit Kumar (19) kidnapped a girl (16), from the residence of one Subhas Bhattacharjee at Rangmen Umiam in Ri Bhoi. Later, both of them were traced at LGB Airport, Guwahati, where the victim was rescued. Police arrested the accused person.

Meanwhile, a 12 year old girl, Lekha Momin received bullets injuries on her left hand when as many as 18 unidentified miscreants armed with country-made gun went to the house of one Songgasing Sangma at Modipara in North Garo Hills and fired two shots at the house on May 31 at around 11:30pm.
