Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh felicitates one of the sportpersons during a programme in the city on Tuesday for athletes from various disciplines who excelled in national and regional tournaments. The Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs has felicitated 293 athletes from 14 disciplines with cash awards this year. The awards started at Rs 1,000 going up to Rs 7,500 for individual events. The Meghalaya sub-junior football team took away Rs 30,000 for winning the national championships, while the state football and hockey teams were awarded Rs 20,000 each for taking silver in the North East Games.
