NBCC observes ‘Ri-Bhoi Day’

 NONGPOH: The Nongpoh Block Congress Committee (NBCC) on Tuesday observed the Ri-Bhoi Day by awarding cash awards and momentous to meritorious students who have successfully passed in the SSLC and HSSLC examination 2013.

The Ri-Bhoi Day was observed at the office of Nongpoh Block Congress Committee at Umbuda village.

It was on June 4, 1992 that the district came into existence.

The presentation of awards to meritorious students was following by plantation of sapling as pre-celebration of World Environment Day.

Nongpoh MLA DD Lapang graced function as chief guest and presented the awards to 39 meritorious students who came out with flying colours in the SSLC and HSSLC examinations.

The programme was also witnessed by the leaders and member of Nongpoh and Umsning Block Congress Committee.

“It was the hard work and sincerity of the Ri-Bhoi Dorbar that the Ri-Bhoi Civil Sub Division was upgraded into a full-fledged District on June 4, 1992” Lapang said.

Lapang exhorted the students to work hard and aim for higher studies as the bright future of the District will be entrusted upon the shoulders of the youths of the District, he added.
