SHILLONG: Several Government departments have given nod to the formation of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights in the State.

“We have prepared a Cabinet memo regarding the formation of State Commission for Protection of Child Rights and the matter will be taken up by the Cabinet after getting views from several departments,” Principal Secretary, Social Welfare, PW Ingty said on Friday.

The move comes in the wake of the direction of the members of National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), who visited Shillong recently.

Ingty said that the department got positive opinions from Law, Planning and Personal departments and the matter was taken up with the Finance department and the feedback is awaited.

Ingty also had a meeting with the Additional Chief Secretary in charge Finance, BK Dev Verma, in this regard.

According to Ingty, the Supreme Court had already directed the states to form the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights by June.
