EFLU campus foundation stone laid

SHILLONG: Marking a new beginning in the history of English and Foreign Language University (EFLU), the Union Minister for Human Resource Development Dr MM Pallam Raju today laid the foundation stone of ELFU’s new permanent campus in Umsawli, outskirts of Shillong city.

The proposed campus will be constructed at 50 acres of land which has been allotted to the university by the State Government.

Addressing the gathering after laying the foundation, Dr MM Pallam Raju asserted that the language of English has become the language of opportunity and there is a need to strengthen the access to the language.

According to Union Minister, the EFLU Shillong will also work with the NCERT to increase the capacity building for foreign languages teaching

The university at present offers various programmes and course in different foreign languages besides the university has also envisaged the option of introducing Korean, Chinese and Japanese language.

EFLU was established in Shillong in the year 1973 as the Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages (CIEFL) North-East Campus.
