Latif accuses Ramdin of cheating
Karachi: Former captain Rashid Latif on Sunday accused West Indies wicketkeeper Dinesh Ramdin of “cheating” when he claimed a clean catch of Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq in their Champions Trophy match in London. Ramdin has been charged with a level two offence by the match referee and a hearing is set for Monday. Misbah was ruled not out by the third umpire. Ramdin, who could be fined upto 100 per cent of his match fees and also face a one or two match ban, has pleaded not guilty. But Latif, a former wicketkeeper who once served a five-match ban for claiming a bump catch, said Ramdin definitely knew that he had not completed the catch. “It happens in the spur of the moment but for Ramdin to say he is not guilty is not right. He knew he had not completed the catch and had picked up the ball from the ground. He should not have claimed the catch,” Latif said. “He (Ramdin) might say anything but basically he cheated when he claimed a catch after picking up the ball from the ground. A keeper knows well what he is doing and when he has taken a clean catch.” Latif was banned after a 2003 Test match against Bangladesh in Multan for claiming a bump catch. He was charged with a level one offence and banned for five ODIs. (PTI)
Delhi Police ask ED to probe IPL money trail
New Delhi: Delhi Police on Sunday asked the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to probe the money trail in alleged spot fixing in the Indian Premier League (IPL). “We have written to the Enforcement Directorate to investigate the money trail in the spot fixing in IPL,” a Delhi Police official said. Delhi Police have also asked the ED to trace money-laundering from Pakistan and Dubai, sources revealed. The recently concluded sixth edition of IPL was marred by alleged spot fixing. (IANS)
Punjab, Air India enter hockey final
Pune: Holders Punjab will take on Air India in the final of the third Hockey India senior men’s National Championship. Defending champions Punjab defeated Karnataka 5-2 while Air India took care of Haryana, beating them 7-3 here on Sunday. (IANS)
