SHILLONG: The alleged practices of nepotism in the Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) unearthed recently through documents obtained under the Right to Information (RTI) Act will be examined by the State Government after which suitable action will be taken.

A senior official from the department of Commerce and Industrial on Monday told The Shillong Times that the government will cross-examine the matter.

“We had called for a clarification and the same was received just today. The government will be taking up this matter immediately,” the official said.

Documents obtained through an RTI application, filed by a concerned job seeker, have revealed that several Grade IV employees were appointed in the MIDC without any advertisement. As per the documents obtained, it was revealed that the MIDC appointed one managing trainee in 2012, two drivers in 2012 and 2013 respectively, two office peons in 2013, a cleaner in 2012 and a cleaner-cum-office peon at Tura Branch in September, 2012 and all these posts were filled up without any advertisement being issued.

When asked whether such appointments will be scrapped, the official said that after the matter is examined and if the allegations turn out to be true, then the government will scrap all such ‘backdoor appointments’.

Last month, the Managing Director of MIDC was alleged to have appointed his son as the Assistant Director of MIDC by flouting advertisement norms.
