SHILLONG: The Garo Students of Pune with the help of police rescued several duped job aspirants from Meghalaya, who were taken to Pune by private security agencies with the promise of providing jobs as security guards in Goa.

In a statement issued here, the Garo Students of Pune said that a total of 50 persons from Meghalaya and Assam were recruited by Sena Security Agency from Barpeta, Assam for recruitment as guards.

Out of the 50, 20 job aspirants were from Ampati, South West Garo Hills which is the home constituency of Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma.

According to the Garo students, they were recruited by one Martin D. Shira, who is one of the agents of Sena Security Agency. Shira promised them to provide jobs in Goa and they were charged a sum of Rs 7300 per head as cost of admission fees, lodging and food, medical expenses, train fare and food , recruitment charges and insurance fee.

A case was filed against Shira for cheating the job aspirants.

After recruiting them, Shira took them to the office of Sena Security Agency located at Barpeta and subsequently, they were brought to Mumbai by one Qasim who is also one of the agents of Sena Security Agency .

He, however, handed them over to another security agency, Swift Secure Agency, Pune and fled away, according to the students .

Though the job aspirants were promised jobs in Goa, they were brought only to Pune by the Swift Security Agency.

The agency did not take any responsibility for providing food and lodging for which money was already paid by them to Sena Security Agency .

Adding to the trouble, the Swift Security Agency asked them to pay for food and lodging .

They also conducted physical test and examination for the security jobs, but the job aspirants failed to pass the test due to language problem.

The remaining 8 job aspirants wanted to go to Goa, but the Swift Agency did not allow them to leave the place without paying for the food and lodging expenses.

” The Agency also took away their money and were kept them without providing food for two days. We managed to contact them by getting some information from those six people who were sent back home,”, the students said,

The students of Pune also contacted the South West Garo Hills district administration , police officials, magistrates and several NGOs besides the police officers of Pune. .

The police officers tried to track the exact location where eight job aspirants were kept and after getting necessary information, the Garo students and the police rescued them.

They were brought to Hadapssar police station in Pune along with the Swift Security agents for further questioning .

The students quoting Pune police said that the main culprits allegedly to be involved are Qasim and his team from Sena Security Agency located at Barpeta.

The students further said that after contacting the Deputy Commissioner of Ampati , they sent the job aspirants back home on January 9 from Pune via Kolkata.
