SHILLONG: The ANVC (B) has alleged that its chairman Rimpu Marak has been ‘trapped’ by the police.
While denying the report of the police that they had found an abandoned car with a gun inside in Tura recently, ANVC (B) general secretary Jakrik Wareng A Sangma said that the particular car was driven by the chairman of the outfit.
In a statement issued here on Monday, Jakrik said, “That car was driven by our chairman on world environment day (June 5), the day when police raided him and there was no gun in the car then.” Jakrik further alleged that the police took out something from a Sumo (ML 08C 3602) and planted it in the car which they later claimed as abandoned with a gun inside. According to the ANVC (B), the police used a black coloured Gypsy (ML 08 0044) and one Sumo in the operation which lasted for almost 4 -5 hours. The outfit also claimed that ‘certain groups other than police’ were also involved in the operation.
The outfit claimed that no less than 25 ANVC (B) cadres have been arrested so far and some have disappeared without a trace when they went to visit their families following the signing of the peace agreement.
ANVC (B) also claimed that the police activities are aimed at pushing the cadres back to the jungle.
The outfit also asked the authorities to inquire into the details of the two vehicles used in the operation on June 5, and also to find out details of the caller who informed the Additional SP Special Branch, Tura of Rimpu Marak’s movements at around 2.30 pm on the same day from Chandmary.
