Youngest Myntri assumes charge

SHILLONG: The Dorbar Hima Mylliem on Monday welcomed another Minister (Myntri) into its court, Midnight Born Kharlukhi who emerged to be the youngest minister in the history of the Dorbar Hima.

The 25-year-old minister, Midnight Kharlukhi was appointed as the minister from the Kharlukhi clan on May 31 and the Sanad (acknowledgement letter) was handed to him by the Syiem of Hima Mylliem, Latho Manik Syiem at the Iing Dorbar of the Hima Mylliem at Mawkhar here on Monday.

The election of Kharlukhi as the minister by his clan members came after the death of Phrangsngi Kharlukhi, who was the then minister from the Kharlukhi clan.

Kharlukhi will now join the Dorbar Hima along with the 48 other ministers from different clans which falls under the jurisdiction of the Hima Mylliem which included-5 clans,11 clans, 4 clans and the Raid San Shnong.

“It is a proud moment for my clan and I promise to stand by my principles and at the same time to revive the dying values of the Khasi society and to preserve the traditional cultures and traditions of the Khasis,”, Midnight Kharlukhi said after receiving the Sanad from the Mylliem’s Chieftain.

The new minister also vowed to work hand in hand with the other ministers and the Syiem of Hima Mylliem with an aim to bring positive changes to the Khasi society in line with the new era while at the same time, upholding the traditional beliefs and culture.
