Ban hailed

Meghalaya People’s Environment Rights Forum applauded the steps initiated by P.S. Dkhar, Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills District for imposing a ban on mining of limestone in Nongtalang, Banan, Amtapoh villages falling within the jurisdiction of the District. The Forum also gave a verbal assurance to the D.C. to assist the aggrieved villagers in extending legal help if necessary.

Rally

The Indigenous Biodiversity & Social Welfare Organisation (IBSWO) will hold a public rally on June 13 at Madan Tirot, Mission Mairang, West Khasi Hills from 10:30 am onwards to protest against construction of Dam over River Khri (Dron/Sri in Assam) by the Government of Assam.

Workshop

The FKJGP Central body will hold a one-day orientation workshop on National Green Tribunal on the theme ‘Mining People and Environment Laws’ on June 12 from 12 noon at the seminar hall of State Central Library Complex.

Scholarship

The office of the Project Director & State Coordinator, State Resource Centre-Shillong Civil Hospital will launch a scheme of Meritorious Scholarship for students with disabilities (Class XI onward) on June 14 at Vivekananda Cultural Centre, (Ramakrishna Mission) at 10:30 am.
