SHILLONG: An MHIS beneficiary, KL Nonglait, who was detained for almost five days at Nazareth Hospital for non-payment of hospital bill amounting to over Rs 4000, was on Thursday released by the hospital authorities.

The patient was released from the hospital after an arrangement was arrived at between the hospital authorities and the insurance company (ICICI Lombard) to relieve the patient from paying the remaining dues.

“This issue was discussed with the hospital authorities earlier today and an arrangement was made between the company and the hospital authorities,” Commissioner and Secretary of Health DP Wahlang said here on Thursday.

The arrangement came a day after Nonglait stated his determination to stay put at Hospital until the State Government comes up with a concrete clarification on the issue and clears his hospital dues.

Meanwhile, the State Health Department has stated that it is determined not to entertain such cases in future while reiterating its stand to make payment as per the approved package rate.

When contacted, Nonglait told The Shillong Times that he was still unhappy with the things were and demanded that the government comes up with suitable clarification at the grassroots level.
