SHILLONG: Despite the four-laning Jorabat-Umiam project facing several stumbling blocks, Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma has expressed confidence that the project would be completed within the stipulated timeframe fixed for March next year.

“I do not have any kind of doubt that the project would complete within the given deadline. I have asked the NHAI to make all possible efforts to ensure the project completes in time,” Chief Minister said after the review meeting with the officials of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) on the status of the ongoing four-lane Jorabat – Umiam road project here on Wednesday.

While pointing out that there has been a lot of concern expressed by the general public, Chief Minister said that certain constraints faced by the project such as the issue of land acquisition and maintenance of the surface of the road was deliberated at length during the meeting.

It may be mentioned that the construction of the four – lane project started in 2010.

On the much awaited Shillong Bye Pass, Mukul said that the government is still working out on the schedule to formally inaugurate the bye pass.
