SHILLONG: Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker Abu Taher Mondal on Monday said that he is yet to receive an official communique from the Meghalaya People Front (MPF) regarding its opposition to the nomination of members exclusively from the ruling side as chairman of the various Assembly committees.
Mondal also refuted the MPF charge stating that,”There are no hard and fast rules that the post of chairman of the Assembly Committees should be shared by members from both the ruling and opposition. But it is not true that the chairman of the all Assembly Committees are only from the ruling side.”
According to him, veteran HSPDP legislator Hoping Stone Lyngdoh is the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee.
“If there is really a problem, I am ready to rectify it,” Mondal said.
Earlier, the MPF had expressed strong opposition over the alleged unprecedented decision of Assembly Speaker to nominate only the members of ruling side as chairman of various Assembly Committees. “This decision of the Assembly Speaker is unprecedented,” MPF spokesperson Paul Lyngdoh had said.
