East Garo Hills DC convenes peace meet

 SHILLONG: Anticipating possible clash in parts of East Garo Hills District, Deputy Commissioner VK Mantri held a meeting with various NGOs, religious leaders and prominent citizens of Williamnagar on Monday.

Mantri appealed to all to maintain peace and harmony and sought the cooperation in the effort to prevent and contain any crimes with a communal angle.

Mantri also reiterated the District Administration’s commitment to protect and prevent any kind of untoward crime or violence through hatred perpetrated by criminal elements to any section of society.

Superintendent of Police, JFK Marak, sought the cooperation of all section of the community in helping the law and order machinery in tackling the problem and he assured that police would provide security to the minorities of East Garo Hills district. The meeting also resolved to form peace committees at every locality that will work in coordination with the District Administration to prevent occurrence of hate crimes.

Meanwhile, the Garo Students’ Union (GSU), Williamnagar unit, has assured the members of the minority community and the District Administration that they would desist and prevent commission of such crimes.
