Shillong: A two-day orientation programme on Labour Laws organized by the Office of the Labour Commissioner was inaugurated by MS Rao, Principal Secretary, Labour, at Raitong Building, here on Tuesday.
The orientation programme was attended by MN Nampui, Labour Commissioner, and officers from the Directorate of Labour and Employment and Craftsmen Training.
Dr Onkar Sharma from the VV Giri National Labour Institute is the resource person for the programme. The Institute in Noida is an autonomous institute dedicated to research in the field of labour and training of labour administrators, trade unions, public sector managers and other related government functionaries.
Speaking on the occasion, Rao, informed that the orientation programme will dwell on the fundamentals of different labour laws which includes the Building and Other Construction Workers Act, 1996, Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986, Inter State Migrant Workmen Act, 1979, Unorganised Workers Social Security Act, 2008, Maternity Benefit Act, 1961 and Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act, 1976.
