SHILLONG: Police on Tuesday arrested a constable — PG Momin — for allegedly raping his step-daughter since nine years resulting in her bearing a child from him. Momin, who had first committed the crime in 2004, was arrested from his residence, hours after an FIR was lodged by a women’s NGO at Laitumkhrah police station in the city.
According to the Additional Superintendent of Police, (Crime) Vivek Syiem, the accused has been placed under 10-day police custody. Syiem informed that Momin, who is married to the victim’s mother, had impregnated her when she was 12. The victim broke the silence after nine years and alleged she was raped by Momin during the period between 2004 and February 2013 ever since she was 12.
The girl is a student and is currently staying with her mother along with her 9-year- old child.
