Stress on conservation of water resources

 NONGSTOIN: A seminar on Water Resources was organised by the Soil and Water conservation together with Water Resources Department in collaboration with the District Administration South West Khasi Hills on Wednesday at the Multipurpose Hall DC office Mawkyrwat.

Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Soil and Water Conservation Department, Rowell Lyngdoh, attended as the chief guest in the presence of Deputy Commissioner, South West Khasi Hills, A Mawlong, local MDC of Mawkyrwat, EK Raswai, Director of Soil Conservation Department D Langstieh and other dignitaries.

Speaking in the seminar, Lyngdoh stressed on the need to preserve the environment and its surroundings in order to conserve water for various needs of human being and other living things adding that to achieve this goal, people must change their way of thinking and attitude.

He also stated that the State Government through the Department of Water Resources was preparing the water policy on how to preserve the rivers and water bodies in the State for the future generation.

Lyngdoh also urged upon the people to extend their cooperation with the government for the smooth implementation of different development schemes and projects in the District.

The Seminar included the highlights and presentations by the resource persons from different departments on the importance of water to Agriculture, Horticulture, Environment forestry and wild life, Fisheries, Veterinary, human needs and other living things where almost all speakers stressed on the need to conserve water for the survival of all life.
