Centre responsible for guarding border: CM

 SHILLONG: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma has held the view that the Central Government was solely responsible for guarding International borders in the North East region.

He also said that the State faced a lot of problems through the International border while adding that arms and ammunitions are not made in Shillong or Tura but is rather smuggled from across the border.

The Chief Minister also outlined the need to upscale the strength of the police organisation in the State, while stating that the State Government has taken the requisite steps by creating new police stations and strengthening the manpower even as he said that the density of police personnel and police outpost need to be increased.

The State Government has also submitted proposals to the Ministry of Home Affairs to strengthen the police organization and the Ministry have asked the State Government to submit its proposal in two phases.
