SHILLONG: The State Government on Friday said it would set up an exclusive court that would conduct trial in the Chandra Mohan Jha University (CMJU) case.

Talking to media persons here in the city on Friday, Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma said, “If needed we will constitute a special court to ensure speedy trial in the case.”

The State CID which is investigating into the matter has so far arrested all the officials of the CMJ University with the exception of the main accused Chancellor Chandra Mohan Jha, who is still at large.

The Chief Minister was confident that the Law will catch up with CM Jha. “Nobody can hide for long. Even Saddam Hussein was captured,” Dr Sangma said.

The Chief Minister also admitted that the Government had failed to detect anomalies in the functioning of the University in 2011, when the matter was reported, even though he had personally directed Education Minister Dr RC Laloo to probe in the details.

“The information was accessible by the Governor, who is the Visitor of the University, before the department has access to the details,” he added.
