State aquaculture mission kicks off

 NONGPOH: The first fish pond constructed under the Meghalaya State Aquaculture Mission was formally inaugurated at Umtrew villager in Ri-Bhoi District.

The pond constructed at an estimated amount of Rs 90,000 was inaugurated by the Local MLA of Umsning Constituency Dr. Celestine Lyngdoh in the presence of A. Jyrwa, Superintendent of Fishery Ri-Bhoi among others.

Speaking on the inaugural function as chief guest, Dr. Celestine Lyngdoh lauded the Meghalaya State Aquaculture Mission for providing financial assistance to fish farmers in the District and state as a whole.

He also exhorted the farmers to properly utilize the scheme as provided by the government and not to misuse for any other purpose as the government has implemented the scheme to start self sufficient fish production from the State to uplift the economy of the farmers in the State.
