SHILLONG: The KSU has threatened to launch agitation if the State Government fails to get the release of the two people from Langpih who have been in custody of Assam Police since June 15.

“It is really pathetic to see the Government not taking any initiative to get the release of two villagers. This only reflects that the Government is not bothered about the problems of the people residing along the inter-state border with Assam,” KSU vice president Frederick Kharmawphlang said.

Kharmawphlang said that if the Government failed to get the immediate release of the two villagers, they would be left with no other option but to agitate. Two Khasi labourers – Skendro L Mawnai (68) and Twendro L Mawnai (70) of Mawnai, Nongdron Village in West Khasi Hills District are kept in Guwahati jail. Varying stories leading to their arrest have come to light. Khasi by- standers alleged they were arrested as they were unable to answer to the queries of the Assam Police personnel. Another version had it that the Assam police arrested them after they were found instigating the Nepali residents of the area. The duo was initially taken to Boko Police Station from where they were transferred to Guwahati jail.
