Militants ambush minister’s convoy

Imphal: Heavily armed unidentified militants fired towards a convoy led by Kh Ratan, State Minister at Kangpokpi on Tuesday.

The minister along with Kipgen MLA, officials of Public Works Department were driving at Parsian Village Gopibung, Kangpokpi under Senapati district to inspect conditions of the roads when suspected militants fired upon the convoy.

Security personnel of the minister, MLA and officials took position and fired towards the militants. There was an exchange of fire for about ten minutes.

The minister , MLA and all those who went for the inspection work took position and crawled so that they would not be hit.

Police said no one was injured in the incident and the militants were in full battle fatigue. As there was adequate security personnel escorting the minister the militants got away.

The militants must be a handful of people as they retreated when security personnel fired upon them, police said.

Additional forces were rushed in and combing operations held in the area.

The programme of the minister went ahead without any problem. (UNI)
