New Delhi: Alliance Air, which had suspended its service to Shillong from January last, will resume the same this month following pressure from several quarters including the North Eastern Council (NEC).

The air service between Kolkata- Umroi -Kolkata will resume on July 10, sources said here on Wednesday adding that the service would be for four days a week — Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

Resumption of flights to Lilabari and Tezpur is under consideration, sources said.

Flights within the Northeastern region was hit from New Year, with Air India stopping its operations to airports like Tezpur, Lilabari and Shillong following “non-payment” of dues by the NEC. The alleged failure of NEC to pay over Rs. 100 crore, due for two years, has also led Air India not renewing the lease of three turbo-prop ATR planes operating to these cities, sources added.

The NEC then disputed the “arrears” claimed by the Alliance Air since the agreement to run flights to the three airports- Umroi, Lilabari and Tezpur expired way back in 2011. The NEC’s agreement to run flights to the three airports came to an end on December 31, 2011, the NEC had said.
