Guwahati: BJP president Rajnath Singh on Wednesday stated that the party had a focus on the Northeast issues and the treasury of the Government of India would be very generous in respect of development of the region when the BJP would come to power in New Delhi after 2014 election.

Addressing a massive rally of party workers here on Wednesday, the BJP leader said the party was quite alive to the problem of illegal migration from Bangladesh and would do everything possible to stop infiltration from that country. He, however, said the BJP was not averse to having good relations with Bangladesh, a neighbour.

The BJP leader said, “The BJP is the most secular party in the country while Congress is the most communal one. We don’t want to divide Hindus and Muslims. For us all those who are born in India are Indian citizens. It is the Congress that has used Muslims as vote bank over the years by creating a sense of fear among them.”

The BJP president criticized the Congress-led government in the Centre for the unprecedented spiraling prices of all commodities and petroleum fuels that have crippled the common people.

“The sky-rocketing prices are precipitated by wrong economic policies, wrong economic planning and corruption during the incumbent Congress regime. The value of the Rupee has hit the all time low compared to the US dollar because of the faulty economic policy followed by the Congress government,” the BJP president said.

“The people of the country remember the former BJP-led NDA government headed by Atal Behari Vajpayee faced not a single corruption charge while prices including fuel prices were totally under control. Vajpayee was not an economist like Dr Manmohan Singh, but ran the country much better. The country doesn’t need an economist PM but a realist PM who knows the ground realities,” the BJP president said.

The BJP president called upon the party workers to take note of the writing on the walls and gear up to woo the voters all over against the misrule of Congress.

The BJP president arrived here to join the celebration of the party’s encouraging performance in just held election to Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC). The BJP has won 11 seats in 31-member Guwahati Municipal Corporation election compared to 19 seats won by Congress. It has been construed significant given that all the four assembly segments in Guwahati are under the grip of Congress.

Singh also welcomed a senior leader from the regional Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and a former minister Atul Bora to the BJP fold on Wednesday in presence of party workers.

It may be mentioned that the incumbent Assam State BJP president Sarbananda Sonowal too was an AGP leader before he joined the saffron party two years back.

He was also a former president of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), the spearhead of Assam Agitation against illegal Bangladeshi migrants.
