SHILLONG: The Megh-alaya Private University Regulatory Board (MPURB) will complete the compilation of its findings on the functioning of the private universities in the state shortly and the same will be forwarded to the state government for necessary action.
The chairman of the Board L Roy said that inspection of all the private institutions is in progress and would be completed very soon.
Roy disclosed this to a delegation of KSU, which called on him here on Thursday.
The five-member committee was constituted under the Meghalaya Private Universities (Regulation of Establishment and Maintenance of Standards) Act, 2012 to ensure quality education and to oversee the functioning of all private universities in the State.
“We have asked the regulatory board to speed up the inspection process as the state can not afford another CMJ episode,” KSU president Daniel Khyriem told reporters after the meeting.
Khyriem felt that the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and University Grant Commission (UGC) should conduct regular inspections to verify the authenticity of the private educational institutions.
The KSU leader demanded the Board should make its findings public for the benefit of parents and students.
The student body will take up the CMJ University issue with the newly appointed Governor of Meghalaya Dr KK Paul.
“With the tenure of RS Mooshahary coming to an end, we will not remain silent on the issue but we will take up the matter with the new governor as well,” Khyriem said.
In relation to the progress of admission of the affected students of CMJ University in other universities, KSU’s educational secretary Donald Thabah said that the Directorate of Higher and Technical Education has informed that the credentials of the students have been scrutinized and the report on the same has been forwarded to the state government.
“As far as our information, the matter is now with the government and further recommendation from the government is awaited in this regard,” Thabah stated.
