JOWAI: The Department of Metrology, previously known as the Department of Weight and Measure will soon construct a new office building at Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills District with a total project cost of Rs 50 lakh approximately.

The Minister in charge Metrology Department, Sniawbhalang Dhar in the presence of Parliamentary Secretaries including Justine Dkhar and Robinus Syngkon laid the foundation stone for the construction of the new office building on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Dhar informed that the construction of the Metrology Office will help the people come closer to the government in regard to weight and measures of various commodities and pre packed commodities.

He informed that the government had sanctioned Rs. 50 lakh each for construction of the Metrology Inspector offices at Khliehriat, Ampati and Tura and there are proposals to construct new office buildings at Russabelpara and Mawkyrwat, the other two newly created Districts.

Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner, Abhishek Bhagotia handed over the land documents to the Minister, which is a site for the construction of the office building. The land with an area of 1850 sqaure metres is a government land.
